GOTS certified clothing brands
GOTS — the Global Organic Textile Standard — is the most comprehensive certification available for organic natural fiber clothing. Unlike OEKO-TEX, which tests the finished product for chemical residues, GOTS certifies the entire supply chain: organic fiber farming, spinning and dyeing without toxic chemicals, and manufacturing under fair labor conditions. Every processing facility a garment passes through must hold GOTS certification.
This makes GOTS harder to obtain and more meaningful than most textile certifications. A brand cannot slap a GOTS label on a product — they need certified suppliers at every stage, and they need to be audited annually. You can verify any GOTS certificate in the public database at global-standard.org using the license number that certified brands are required to display.

What does GOTS certified mean for clothing?
GOTS — Global Organic Textile Standard — certifies that a garment was made from organically grown natural fiber and processed through a supply chain that meets strict chemical and social criteria. To carry the GOTS label, a product must contain at least 70% certified organic fiber (95% for the "organic" label grade). Every step of processing — spinning, dyeing, finishing, manufacturing — must be certified under GOTS, not just the farming stage. How do I verify GOTS certification?

Is GOTS certification expensive for brands?
Yes, relatively. The cost of GOTS certification involves annual audits of every certified facility in the supply chain — fiber farm, spinning mill, dye house, cut-and-sew factory — each of which pays its own certification fee. For a small brand sourcing from multiple suppliers across different countries, this creates real cost and administrative complexity. This is why many smaller natural fiber brands carry OEKO-TEX (which certifies the finished product for harmful substances) rather than GOTS (which follows the full supply chain). GOTS is harder and more expensive but more comprehensive.
What is the difference between GOTS and OEKO-TEX?
GOTS and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 cover different things. GOTS certifies the entire production chain — from organic fiber farming through processing, dyeing, and manufacturing — and includes social criteria (fair wages, safe working conditions). OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 tests the finished product for harmful chemical residues without covering how it was made or whether the fiber was organically grown. A polyester garment can carry OEKO-TEX certification; it cannot carry GOTS. GOTS is the more demanding standard for natural fiber clothing.
