About
The Plain Thread is a directory of clothing and home goods made from natural fibers: cotton, linen, wool, hemp, alpaca, silk, cashmere, and more.
How we choose brands
Before a brand goes in the directory, we read its product pages, materials information, and any certifications it holds, such as GOTS, OEKO-TEX, or RWS. The fibers and certifications on each brand page come from what the brand publishes. We don't test products or audit factories.
Many natural fiber brands also sell some blended pieces, like socks with nylon for durability or knits with a little elastane for stretch. Check the label on any product before you buy.
If something on a brand page is wrong, email hello@theplainthread.com and we'll fix it. Brands can also claim their listing and correct it themselves.
How we make money
The Plain Thread earns money in two ways.
Affiliate links. Some links to brand websites are affiliate links. If you buy something after clicking one, we may earn a commission. You pay the same price either way.
Featured listings. Brands can pay for a featured listing. Featured brands show up first on category and fiber pages, can add products and a brand story to their page, and may be included in our guides. They are labeled "Featured" wherever they appear.
Brands that pay us or earn us commission get more visibility on the site. Paying does not get a brand listed, though. Every brand, paid or free, has to sell natural fiber clothing or home goods to appear in the directory.
