Cotton

Cotton is one of the most widely grown natural fibers in the world, harvested from the seed pods of the cotton plant. It has been used in clothing for thousands of years across every major civilization.

Where it comes from

Cotton plants are grown primarily in the United States, India, China, and Brazil. The fiber is harvested from the boll — the protective case around the seeds — and spun into yarn.

Properties

Breathable
Cotton allows air circulation, making it comfortable in warm weather.
Soft
The natural fiber is gentle against skin, including for people with sensitivities.
Absorbent
Cotton absorbs moisture readily, though it dries more slowly than wool or linen.
Durable
Cotton becomes stronger when wet and holds up well to regular washing.

Microplastics

Cotton is a natural fiber. It does not contain synthetic polymers and does not shed microplastic particles during washing. When cotton fibers break down — in the wash or at end of life — they biodegrade.
