Check the momme weight

Momme (mm) measures silk fabric density. 19–22mm is the standard for quality sleepwear and blouses. Under 12mm is too lightweight to hold up. Quality brands publish this number.

The burn test is real

Real silk burns slowly, smells like burning hair, and leaves a crushable ash. Polyester melts, smells chemical, and leaves a hard bead. If a brand won't disclose fiber content, that's your answer.

Mulberry vs. wild silk

Mulberry silk (from Bombyx mori silkworms) is the most uniform and lustrous. Wild silk (tussah, eri) has a more textured appearance. Both are real silk — the distinction is quality and look.

OEKO-TEX over "natural"

"Natural" silk can still be dyed with heavy metals and processed with toxic chemicals. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification means the finished product has been tested for harmful substances.
