Best Alpaca Clothing Brands
Alpaca is warmer than wool by weight, contains no lanolin (making it hypoallergenic), and the animals graze without damaging fragile high-altitude ecosystems. These are the brands sourcing responsibly from Andean farms and building garments that last.

Alpaca vs. wool — what's the difference?
Warmer by weight
Alpaca fiber is hollow, trapping more air than solid wool fibers. A lighter-weight alpaca sweater provides the same warmth as a heavier wool one.
No lanolin — naturally hypoallergenic
Wool contains lanolin, which causes irritation for many people. Alpaca fiber has none, making it suitable for sensitive skin.
Baby vs. royal alpaca
Royal alpaca (under 19 microns) and baby alpaca (under 22 microns) are the finest grades — soft enough to wear directly on skin. Standard alpaca can feel coarser.
Peru is the origin
80% of the world's alpaca fiber comes from Peru, primarily from the Andean highlands. Brands that trace fiber to specific farms or cooperatives offer the most transparency.
